Twenty-Eighteen. This year was a year of music exploration and expression for me. I started a music review podcast (@musicmondaycast) with one of my best friends, joined the student concert committee at Purdue, and spearheaded The Bridge (@TheBridgePurdue). This was the year I learned how to merge my creativity and passion for music.

Here’s 10 of the best albums I bopped to this year!

Narrated for You // Alec Benjamin
While this is technically a mixtape, it was the collection of songs that hit me the hardest this year. When Alec released this in November I stopped listening to everything else. Alec Benjamin is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter/storyteller.

Geography // Tom Misch
According to Spotify, I spent 25 hours listening to Tom Misch this year. I’m not mad about it. Tom’s music makes me ~ feel ~

This Time // Donna Missal
Donna. Oh Donna. What a powerhouse! I was lucky enough to discover Donna right before she released her debut album this year.

ONEPOINTFIVE // Aminé
If you haven’t listened to this album from start to end, you’re missing out! I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an album with transitions like this one. When you listen to this album it’s almost like you’re listening to one really long song. Everything meshes perfectly. Plus, Rickey Thompson’s commentary sprinkled in is guaranteed to make you giggle.

Glory Sound Prep // Jon Bellion
I know everyone expected this to be my #1 album of 2018…. but…. it’s not. Don’t get me wrong - GSP is a fantastic album! I just don’t connect with this album in the same way I did with THC.
Jon is a lyrical genius and this album still slaps.

Being Human in Public // Jessie Reyez
Another powerhouse!!! Jessie has collaborated with a ton of big names this year - as well as releasing a collection of bangers! Her voice is incredibly unique and her lyrics can be both funny and meaningful. Be sure to check her out!

Sweetener // Ariana Grande
Theres nothing I can say about this album that hasn’t already been said. It’s great! It’s fun! We stan.

By The Way, I Forgive You // Brandi Carlile
I’ve been a Brandi fan since 2011 when I saw her open for Ray Lamontagne. This album is purely beautiful. Brandi is nominated for multiple awards this year, too!

Lush // Snail Mail
This teen stays true to the genre of punk! Who knew there could be so much emotion in such a tiny person. Add this entire album to your “Songs to Cry to” playlist.

Bloom // Troye Sivan
Similar to Ari, there’s not much I can say about Troye that hasn’t been said before! His voice is beautiful and his songs can make me cry. Again - we stan.

2018 gave us a butt-load of great music! I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for us.

Peace out, 2018. Bring it on, 2019!
Keep Jammin’, friends!
